Join us for a five-week sampler program and work with more than ten heritage crafts. This is an opportunity to "try first," so you can discover what sparks your inspiration to explore further.
A Gateway
The Wild Arts Immersion Experience is a unique opportunity for hands-on learning in a variety of heritage crafts, allowing participants to sample a range of interests before making larger investments of time and resources into a particular skill. With five weeks of full immersion, you will try an impressive list of craft skills to learn what is required to pursue each.
No prior experience necessary!
BASKETRY

Explore working with willow, barks, grasses and other materials.

BOOKBINDING

Learn to make softcover stitched pocket journals and hardcover journals with both Coptic stitch and cased-in methods.

Use real broomcorn and other materials to create beautifully crafted hand brooms, cobweb and floor brooms.

FIBER ARTS & NATURAL DYES

GREENWOOD HAND CARVING

Learn how to hand carve with greenwood as you make a beautiful spoon/ladel.

SOAP MAKING

Be amazed at how simple it is to make your own soap safely! These recipes are vegan, so safe for those with animal product allergies.

RIGID HEDDLE LOOM WEAVING

Use a table-top, portable rigid heddle loom that combines both the heddles and the reed of a traditional floor loom to learn basic warping and weaving techniques.

Expand and sharpen your observation skills while using your handcrafted art materials and handmade journal. You will learn simple and effective techniques to record in writing, drawing, and painting.

Venture into the world of handcrafted paper as you learn to use various plants and other recycled materials in combination with traditional mould and deckle methods.

PIGMENTS, PAINTS, INKS & PIGMENT STICKS

At the start of your immersion experience, create the pigments, paints, inks and pigment sticks that you will use throughout your six-week program.

WILD CLAY, PIT FIRING & KINTSUGI STYLE JOINERY

3.5 DAYS
Learn how to find local clays, process them, create slips and pigments, make pinch pots and fire them in a handmade pit. If something breaks, learn how to repair with a contemporary style of joinery with natural earth pigments!

The studio is open most any time a student wants to work. We only close during our kids' classes on Fridays from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.
