Weaving The Wild
This series of workshops is designed to give you a range of learning opportunities to explore the world of weaving and basketry with natural materials. From foraging and processing, to creating, you will experience new connections with the natural materials we use in this beautiful, functional heritage craft.
Materials literacy and understanding the resources you are using to "make" with is a priority at Wild Arts Learning. In our "Foundation" class, be prepared to gather and process plant materials. For willow, we use both cultivate and wild and you will learn about both and how and when to use each for different projects.

Wild Materials Foundation
In this workshop we learn how to process wild materials for weaving, how to make cordage from natural fibers and how to weave a flat mat with twinning.
The Foundation Workshop is a prerequisite for subsequent "Wild Materials Basketry" workshops.

Basketry
This workshop is for students who have already completed the Foundation Workshop, or have natural materials weaving experience. You will use your foundational understanding and skills explore further in making a square basket with cattails, rattlesnake master and yucca (if you've previously made cordage).
Willow Foundation
The Willow Foundation workshop is intended as an introduction to working with willow. This beautiful, cultivated material takes hand strength and can be more challenging than one might expect. So, this is an opportunity for you to experience the material and know if you would like to explore further.
