Service Description

Join us for an afternoon of mending (or creating) and warm community. Bring your projects and learn how to keep your favorite fashion pieces in action or breathe new life into any old article of clothing so they can bring you joy for years to come! You will learn easy hand sewing and needle felting techniques to repair most any woven and/or knit object. Garments such as woolly sweaters or accessories such as shawls are ideal. We've even had successful embellishing of cloth shoes! The workshop will be part demonstration for both sewing and felting techniques and part hands-on for participant practice. You will have the option to work on your projects with guidance and direction in: * Types of fabric and the ideal repairs to suit them * Hand sewing skills, such as the running stitch and back stitch * Multiple ways to approach sewing a patch * Needle felting damage to knit fabrics * Visible vs discrete mending techniques Once you know the basics, you can continue developing your new skills into a host of creative endeavors. All mending materials will be provided. You just bring your projects! Repairs are not required to take the class; you are welcome to simply bring garments to create on. Note: if you have specific colors you wish to match, you may want to bring that thread, fabric or wool in case the color you want is not in the provided materials. Materials + Snacks + Drinks are provided. This workshop is for adults and hosted at the Wild Arts Learning Center in Springfield, MO. For locals: just out east Sunshine and around the bend from Turner's Station off J Hwy. The address and directions are emailed upon booking.
