Service Description

NOTE: This workshop is held over two class periods, typically on a Tuesday evening and a Saturday morning of that same week. When you book, you will only see the first day of the workshop, which is the first session and includes the second session later that week. Example: Tuesday, July 21 is for the complete workshop, Tuesday and Saturday of that week Tuesday, Sept 22 is for the complete workshop Tuesday and Saturday of that week Session 1 - Paper Making: 5:30-7:30 pm In this portion of the workshop, participants will learn the hand paper-making process and how plant materials can be used alone or incorporated with junk/scrap paper to create unique and beautiful sheets of paper. You will leave your papers to dry for several days and then come back to assemble them into a book! Participants will learn how fibers are processed to make paper pulp and will then form each sheet by using a traditional mould and deckle. Sheets will then be pressed, dried and flattened for later use. Session 2 - Bookbinding: 10:00 am - 2:30 pm We will come back together to learn how to stitch our beautiful handmade paper into journals. You will have the opportunity to use your handmade paper alone or together with ready-made multi-media paper to bind into a book using the Coptic stitch method. Each student will leave with their hand-bound book as well as information on how to set up and start making paper at home. Materials + Snacks + Drinks provided This workshop is for adults and hosted at the Wild Arts Learning Center in Springfield, MO.
