They will learn how to measure, cut, sew and modify using historical materials like linen, silk and wool with from heritage mills. They will learn the basic hand stitches to construct sturdy and versatile items, how to sew buttons, hem, and work on basic seam treatments. Once they learn these fundamental techniques, they will have confidence to continue to explore, experiment and construct more involved projects. Teacher Èirigh Hicks allows students time and space to find their interest and let their individual development shape how and what they do. With a small, limited group of students in class, each participant will receive the personal attention needed to succeed. After this three class series where students have an opportunity to dive in and get a sense of what is possible, what they enjoy or don't, they are then qualified to sign up for more advanced sewing classes on Saturdays where they will continue developing their skills.
